Sejarah proton 1985-1999

1985-1991, Proton Saga
The Proton Saga was the first Proton model. It rolled off the Shah Alam assembly line for the first time in September 1985. The 100,000th Proton Saga was produced in January 1989. Available in both 1.3 and 1.5-litre displacements.




1988, Proton Saga Aeroback



1992-2002, Proton Saga Iswara


Proton Saga Iswara Aeroback
In 1992, the Saga was given a facelift and its name expanded as Proton Saga Iswara (also known in short as Proton Iswara), after a species of butterfly in Sarawak. Modifications included slimmer headlights, plastic bumpers, side mouldings, coloured door handles, grooved taillight clusters and rear number plate repositioned to the bumper.


1993-2003, Proton Wira

The Proton Wira is a car manufactured by Malaysian carmaker Proton, released as a four-door saloon and four-door hatchback beginning 1993. This car was, and still is, very popular in Malaysia. It is almost identical apart from some trunk lid and tail light design to the 1992 Mitsubishi Lancer The word Wira translates into English as "Hero" but instead of using this as the name in English-speaking countries, Proton chose to use the word Persona. The wira has variant models such as 1.3GLi A/M, 1.5GLi A/M, 1.6XLi A/M, 1.8XLi A/M and 2.0D M. Only the 1.8XLi Auto is marketed in the English-speaking country at first known as Persona. Persona is a hatch back model. However, from about 2001 onwards, the car has been sold as the Wira in the United Kingdom.


1994-2003, Proton Wira Aeroback

In 1994, a 5-door hatchback version (initially badged as the Wira Aeroback, in a similar fashion as the 5-door Saga hatchback) was introduced.

1996, Proton Wira 1.8 Sedan
In 1996, the 133 bhp (99 kW) 1.8L 16-valve DOHC engine with multi-point fuel injection, making Wira a first Proton car to be powered by a DOHC engine.


1995-2002, Proton Satria

The Proton Satria (also called the Proton Compact in the UK) is a sporty 3-door hatchback based on the Mitsubishi Mirage / Mitsubishi Colt. Proton gained a lot of valuable engineering knowledge from its takeover of Lotus which ultimately led to a special Lotus badged version of the Satria being produced. Powerplant options included the 4G13p 1.3-litre 12-valve, 4G15p 1.5-litre 12-valve and 4G92p 1.6-litre 16-valve SOHC engine.


1995-2000, Proton Putra

The Proton Putra (also sold in the United Kingdom and Australia as the Proton Coupe or Proton M21) is a 2-door sporty coupe based on the Mitsubishi Mirage. Considered by many as one of the better looking of the Mitsubishi-based models, the Putra was well-received and commands good second-hand value. The Putra's power is derived from a Mitsubishi 1.8L 4G93P DOHC engine, which features a total of 4 cylinders, each with 4 valves and an MPi fuel system.


1995-1998, Proton Perdana
The Perdana was first introduced by Proton in 1995 with Mitsubishi's proven 2.0L 4G63 sohc engine. It was intended for the higher-end market. Perdana is a Malay word for "Prime".




1999-2003, Proton Perdana V6
In 1999, Proton shoehorned a 2.0 L 6A12 V6 engine (also sourced by Mitsubishi) into the Perdana. The so-called Proton Perdana V6 also had a new bodykit and 16" rims.


2003-2010, Proton Perdana V6 Facelift

In 2003, the Perdana V6 was given a major facelift, gaining a new Alfa Romeo-esque front grill (earning the moniker "Alfadana" in Malaysia) and new bumpers.


1996-2000, Proton Tiara

The Proton Tiara was a supermini class 5 door compact car based on the Citroën AX. It was built under license from PSA Peugeot Citroën by Proton from 1996 to 2000. The Tiara was powered by a 1.1L engine and featured a different grille, tail lights and bumpers than the Citroën AX.


1999-2002, Proton Satria GTi


The Proton Satria GTi is a 3-door sports hatchback. This was Proton's entry in the sport performance hatchback market. The Satria GTi is popular in Malaysia and has a large following in Australia. It is powered by a 4-cylinder 1,800 cc DOHC engine and featured Lotus-tuned suspension. The Satria Sports GTi was launched with a 138 bhp (103 kW) 1.8-litre Mitsubishi-sourced 4G93p engine.
